One of our favorite things to do when traveling is finding places to stay that add that extra touch to our trip. Whether its a converted church turned into an Airbnb, an incredible treehouse turned short term vacation rental, or an epic themed rental where you can enjoy your favorite pop culture highlights, a unique place to stay just adds that something special to the trip. Another thing we are always on the hunt for are places that hold a piece of history in them.

Guests will love their stay in this 200 year old bread barn that sits atop a working wood fired bakery in Shenandoah Valley. The inside is cozy and bright with gorgeous farmhouse touches. There is a room called the “Bunk Room” with custom bunk beds that are ADORABLE and a fun teepee for kids in the corner! Guests are able to explore the property during their stay, as well as visit the farm animals and take a tour of the bakery. Bartlett National Bank
Bartlett, Texas. 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 7.
The Bartlett National Bank was established in 1904 and operated as a bank until the 1930’s. Now it is an incredibly unique place for travelers to stay! The bank still boasts many original features that have been transformed into functional living spaces - such as an amazing kitchen in the old teller station. There are also still original vaults in the bank that now serve as a pantry and wine cellar - two vaults still have yet to be opened….we wonder what’s inside?! It isn’t just the bank that’s historic, the whole town of Bartlett has a ton of history and the bank is situated close to many things for guests to explore. The Boundary Cabin

Can you believe this incredible little cabin is less than one mile from the stunning Zion National Park? Even though it is rustic, and only 400 square feet - you definitely will not be giving up any comforts! This includes a full bathroom, heating and cooling, access to a communal fire pit, a queen-sized bed, and a loft suitable for one adult or two young children. Ofcourse you have unlimited access to the number one amenity of this cabin - the EPIC view. Please note - the loft does not come with bedding - you will need to bring bedding for this area. Sonora Town Hall Cottage

The Sonora Town Hall has been around since 1880 and used to serve as a voting poll for Sonora Township but is now a quaint Airbnb. The inside of this quaint studio Airbnb is filled with farmhouse charm. The sofa table is even made from an antique door that is over 100 years old. The cottage sits on a 160 acre working grain farm making there plenty of outdoor space for guests to enjoy and the views are stunning. Ever heard of a “luxury jail suite”… neither had we, but that’s exactly what you’ll be staying in at Hard Time Hotel. This unique and fun rental is a stay and an experience all in one - featuring a mugshot wall, a realistic electric chair, costumes, prison robes, and props! Unlike other jails, this jail provides guests with a pool, hot tub, and cabana. There is also an outdoor cabana bar, Italian living room, Russian throne room, kitchen and laundry room that are accessible to all guests. There is so much charm and detail in this Schoolhouse turned Farm Cottage. The inside is chic, rustic, and cozy with wood accents and pops of color throughout. There is a spiral staircase that leads guests to the loft area where they will find one of the two bedrooms. In our opinion, the coolest part of this renovated Schoolhouse is the firepit and sauna area outside - especially in the winter! Creekside Tobacco Barn
Burnsville, North Carolina. 1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 3.
This renovated Burnsville Tobacco Barn sits next to a beautiful creek and is the perfect creek side getaway. The screened-in porch is right next to the creek and offers guests the option to lounge in the hammock, eat at the table, or sit in one of the chairs facing the windows. The “Station” - Converted Gas Station
Honey Grove, Texas. 1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4.
This gas station, originally from the 1920s, has been completely restored into a very unique vacation rental. It is rumors that the infamous Bonnie and Clyde ever stopped here once. We love how the conversation still maintains some of the charm of the original building. There is exposed brick, reclaimed wood walls, original tin ceilings, and a penny floor. The original gas pumps even still stand outside in the front drive. Our favorite feature has to be the private min golf course where you can play your heart out. The Milkhouse Cottage
Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Studio, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2.
This pre Civil War farmhouse property was originally a milk house in the late 1800’s. The inside now boasts a beautiful “French cottage” décor and has views of the original granary, stone barn and silos, apple tree and towering maples. While guests will have the MilkHouse Cottage to themselves, they will share the outside with a few goats and chickens that reside on the property. How cool is this Western Saloon?! This beautiful stay sits on 10 acres in the Teton Valley and has some amazing sunrise and sunset views for guests to enjoy. The inside has authentic western vibes but with fun touches like a pool table and a fireplace heater. The outside has a saltwater hot tub, fire pit area, and multiple outdoor seating areas next to creeks and facing the beautiful mountain scenery. Union Station Depot House

This converted train depot makes for a seriously interesting vacation rental if you like trains, history, converted and restored places, or all of the above! Can you believe this train station is over 100 years old?! This is such a cool place to return to after your day spent exploring the great outdoors, antiquing in the quaint towns of the area, or wandering the beaches of Lake Superior! The train station sleeps 12, has 3 restrooms, has a full kitchen and even a really cool electric sauna. Go ahead and pack your skis, bikes, all terrain vehicles, and even snowmobiles because this train station is right on the trails! Grist Mill Cabin

Grist Mill Cabin, built in the 18th century, once operated as a fully functioning gristmill but is now a romantic getaway perfect for couples. The cabin is filled with items that were salvaged from the mill such as grain chutes, mill auger, flour packer, pulleys, and timber framing beams. The mill sits on 1.25 acres and Holman’s Creek runs through the property. The old gristmill is private but close to wineries, breweries, skiing, hiking, caverns, and rope adventures for when you are ready to explore the area. Verde District Dairy
Cottonwood, Arizona. 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6.
The Verde Dairy Cottage is almost 100 years old and used to operate as a thriving dairy farm that delivered milk to Verde Valley. The history here is seriously so cool. The dairy cottage turned Airbnb has the original rustic charm on the outside but the inside boasts updated features and beautiful finishes. The property is fenced in and has a great space for kids to enjoy including a tree swing and yard games. There is also a gas fire pit for guests to enjoy on chilly nights! Beautiful Converted Schoolhouse
Waynesville, North Carolina. 1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2.
School is in session at this wonderfully renovated schoolhouse turned Airbnb. We love this Maggie Valley Schoolhouse nestled in the mountains of north Carolina next to a peaceful creek. Dating all the way back to the 1800s, this schoolhouse is complete with handmade furniture, curated antiques, and all the comforts of home. It was the first schoolhouse in the area and even still has some original student names carved into the bead board and a bookshelf made from the wood of the original front door.
