Even more recently, owners of these old historic churches have begun restoring and converting them into short term rentals. They can be found on sites like Airbnb and VRBO if you know what to look for! If you’ve ever wondered what the inside of one of these converted churches looks like or wanted to stay in one - we have put together a list of fourteen unique restored churches that are available to rent.
The list we have curated includes churches from all over the world and from various centuries. Each one has its own unique qualities - while some on the list have stayed true to their original form, others have been completely transformed. The Prince Edward County Church
Ameliasburgh, Ontario, Canada. 4 Bedroom, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8.
This 132 year old converted church in Prince Edward County is stunning. The owners have kept the gothic charm of the church while still updating it with modern touches. We love the communal area with its soaring ceilings, it truly feels grand. The Prince Edward County Church sits on over 3 acres of property that is available for guests to use! Cozy Creative Retreat in Converted 1856 Church
Craryville, New York. 1 Bedroom, 1.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 4.
This converted 19th century church used to be the Taghkanic Center Church, but is now a bright and unique short term rental. Even though the property only has one bedroom, it has been equipped with two huge custom daybeds in the main living space for additional places to sleep. The bedroom that boasts two beds has a curtain that can be pulled between them for additional privacy. The church is bright with splashes of colors all throughout making it extremely unique. The owners of this rental have thought of everything for a relaxing stay including a wood burning stove, a creative work space, a projector and turntable and so much more. Church at Tantawangalo
Candelo, New South Wales, Australia. 1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 3.
This church turned couples retreat is the perfect romantic getaway in New South Wales. The gothic revival style church was built in 1905 and has been luxuriously renovated by the current owners. As soon as you walk into the space you are greeted by dramatic tall ceilings, original stained glass windows, and floor to ceiling bifold doors. The old vestry is now a luxurious bathroom with a free standing tub and oversized shower. The bifold doors lead to the outside of the property where guests can enjoy a bonfire on colder nights. Bellingen Converted Church
Bellingen, New South Wales, Australia. 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 12.
Another New South Wales favorite church conversion of ours is this pet friendly Balinese inspired retreat. From the outside you would never know this home used to be a church built 180 years ago! The inside still has some of the churches original features, including beautiful stained glass windows. One of the most amazing features of the property are the views - guests can see the amazing views of the gardens, the Bellinger River and the mountains from inside and outside the home. If guests want to explore some of those views, there is even a boardwalk coming from the house that will takes guests into the gardens. You can also bring the outdoors in by opening up the wall length doors from the dining area that lead to the outside entertainment area. Colorado Church Perfect For Groups

This beautiful converted 100-year old church is unique, vibrant and full of color! The space boasts 6 private ensuites and an expansive main floor with a designer kitchen. The owners have kept the original stained glass windows that can be seen from many rooms in the church. Outside of the home is just as beautiful with custom seating around a gorgeous fire pit. The home’s lighting, audio, and security is controlled by an iPad and downstairs there is a vintage rec room and wet bar! The Deacon

This beautiful historic Philadelphia Watson and Huckel designed church has been converted into a unique boutique hotel. There are beautiful stained-glass windows all throughout the open concept rental. The previous church boasts unique colors and designs throughout. The Deacon’s main living area is not only open and airy but has a whimsical yet sophisticated feel. Each of the Deacon’s bedrooms offer their own unique qualities as well. Guilcagh Church
Portlaw, County Waterford, Ireland. 2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6.
This beautifully restored 19th century church turned short term rental will transport you back to the 1800’s. While the owners have turned this once church into a luxurious retreat, they have not taken away from its original beauty. The home still boasts arched ceilings and doorways along with stained glass windows throughout. There is a stunning spiral staircase that will take guests up to the balcony that leads to the upstairs bedroom. The owners have added underfloor heating throughout the home for added comfort. The Sanctuary

You have got to check out this gorgeous church revival in Historic Staunton. While the owners have turned this into a bright and beautiful short term rental, they have kept the original arched windows and used church pews in unique places throughout, like the dining room. For some extra fun, guests can checkout the functional bell tower inside the home or enjoy the patio area where they will find a fire pit and grill. This historic former church has been turned into the perfect rental for a couple. Upon entering the rental guests are immediately greeted by beautiful original doors even though the inside has been completely transformed. There is a beautiful courtyard area that is shared between guests and the owners. Stunning Five Star Converted Church
Strangford, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. 5 Bedrooms, 5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 10.
This former Presbyterian church built in 1845 sits on a beautiful property overlooking Castleward Bay. Game of Thrones fans will enjoy the church’s close proximity to Castleward Farmyard which they will recognize as Winterfell. While the church has been restored, it still has its original double height ceilings, ornate coercing and plasterwork, wooden paneling and Georgian windows. The owners have also made sure the home is comfortable for families with children by offering stairgates, travel cots, and high chairs upon request. The Hellena

The Hellena is a newly converted 1930’s church that has been transformed into an ultra unique stay. The inside of the converted church has a one of a kind tiny house inside that includes a private bathroom and bedroom. That isn’t the only unique feature of the home, there are also sky high ceilings, giant windows, and amazing architecture throughout. Guests will also enjoy sleep filled nights on Urban Mattress beds that are local to Denver, Colorado. This stay is perfect for large families or groups and not only has the private space in the tiny home but also boasts two master suites. The Shenandoah Church House
Bentonville, Virginia. 2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6.
You can’t get cozier than the Shenandoah Church house. The historic church built in 1872 is nestled in the heart of the Shenandoah Forest on a beautiful brook and with incredible views. Inside guests will see an original hand painted 12 foot mural painted by a traveling pastor. The rest of the converted church will make guests feel like they’ve stepped into the coziest cabin. There is a loft that has incredible forest views, a reading nook, and a fully stocked toy chest. Outside the church there is a grill, hot tub, and fire pit for guests to use that is situated right alongside the creek. The Little Church on the Hill
Woodstock, New York. 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4.
This peaceful retreat hidden away on 1.5 acres of forest land is the perfect woodland getaway. The structure built in 1914 has been transformed into a cozy modern home. The reconstructed church as been featured in Life, Home, and Garden Magazines as well as some novels. The inside features 25 ft cathedral ceilings, original stained glass windows, an old fashioned spiral staircase and 20th century textured tin walls. Guests can enjoy the forest outside of the church on the patio where the owners have set up a grilling area, dining table, couches, chairs, and a hammock. Phillipsport Church House
Wurtsboro, New York. 5 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6.
Phillipsport Church House was originally constructed in 1823 but is now a cozy retreat for guests wishing to get away and relax. The home is pet friendly with a fenced in back yard and patio area. There is a fire pit with Adirondack chairs and a dining table across the street that is accessible to guests as well. Inside there are ample places to relax, unwind, and take in the views. One of our favorite features of the home, outside of the beautiful floor to ceiling window in the main living space, is the bedroom that houses a bed constructed with old church pews.
