It’s true there is no “one size fits all” expectation when is comes to dome living. What exactly is a dome home? Well, a dome home is a house like any other, in that there are windows and doors and you are protected from the elements, but a dome home is unlike any other in that it is built in the geometric shape of a dome!
There are two main types of dome homes; a monolithic dome home and a geodesic dome home. The first, a monolithic dome home, is a single shell built out of concrete or some other durable material. Monolithic actually translates to ‘formed from a single stone.’ These sturdy domes can make great earth homes or strong stone houses in the desert. Today, it is a lot simpler to build homes like this out of materials that are easier than concrete. These can make great glamping domes. The other main kind of dome home is the geodesic dome. These domes are made of interconnected geometric shapes, often triangles, that come together to form a solid dome. While not as sturdy, these types of domes allow for more windows and variable sizes. You have to check out this unique camping dome in the Smoky Mountains! See the night sky from your bed and enjoy being close to nature. This is a Glamping experience. Glamping is luxurious camping with more modern amenities like power, finished floors, beautiful views, and comfortable furnishings, but it is still camping! If this dome is not available, there are others on the property. The domes are not insulated so it can get hot during the day in the summer and cold at night in the winter. There is an A/C and a heater in the unit, as well as a heated blanket, but similar to camping, expect the weather to be a factor. Explore Tennessee by day and relax in your dome at night.
