A Wonderful Weekend at the Riggs DC

Are you looking for a stylish and family-friendly hotel that offers an ideal base for exploring the wonders of Washington DC with your kids? Look no further than Riggs DC! This luxurious establishment seamlessly blends elegance with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, making it the perfect choice for families seeking both comfort and convenience. We recently had the chance to stay at the Riggs over the weekend in the spring, for our children’s first trip to Washington DC. Join us as we delve into the delightful experiences that await you and your little ones at Riggs DC, where adventure and exploration are at the heart of your stay!

Location

Perfectly situated in the heart of Washington DC, The Riggs Hotel offers a prime location for exploring the city's iconic landmarks. Just a few blocks away from the White House and the National Mall - walking to both is definitely possible. You for sure won’t go hungry - there are a ton of great options for eating and drinking right near the hotel. One of the coolest features for kids is the proximity to the Children’s Museum. Just a short walk (or stroller ride!) away. History buffs will love the fact that this hotel is just steps away from the National Portrait Gallery and Ford’s Theatre.

Ambiance

One of our favorite parts of the Riggs Hotel was definitely the ambiance. The hotel is converted from a bank that was originally constructed in 1981. The Riggs National Bank was known as the ‘Bank of the Presidents’ and was home to the money of twenty three US presidents. The hotel still has several elements of the original bank, including the teller counter check in desk and the vault located in the basement! The original banking hall now holds the Riggs Café and the boardroom, once home to presidential meetings, now houses the Riggs Suite. Our toddlers loved walking around the property and checking out all the cool features. The staff also made our kids feel so special, when we left they provided them with a teddy bear affectionately named “Riggsy!”

Rooms

That awesome ambiance extends to the rooms as well. You can definitely feel touches of the bank in your sleeping quarters also - the mini fridges are little safes! One of the coolest things we have ever seen! The beds were super comfy and the bathrooms felt luxurious. It seems rare that hotels include robes and slippers anymore, but the Riggs had both. Our toddlers loved wearing the slippers around. One nice touch we noticed was that the Riggs provided each room with an umbrella - which was great because we didn’t even think to bring one and it did rain one day of our trip. It was a great thing to have since we were walking everywhere.

Amenities

The Riggs Hotel has the amenities you would expect of a nice hotel including a gym and valet, but there are also some special touches. From the moment you arrive, the attentive and friendly staff ensure that your every need is met. The hotel has its own options for eating and drinking including the Café Riggs - the full service restaurant in the lobby. You will also love the bar - it is located downstairs in the basement in the space that used to be the bank vault. It has such a speakeasy feel! There is also an amazing rooftop space with views of the city that you can reserve for your own special events!

Should you take Toddlers to the Riggs Hotel in Washington DC?

So as we have mentioned a few times - we took our kids with us on our trip to the Riggs Hotel. We would definitely recommend the Riggs Hotel on your next trip to DC with toddlers for several reasons: the location is unbeatable, the hotel is stylish and full of history, and the staff is so nice! When you are ready to book your stay, you can right here!
